Intel will sell as many boxed Of Pentium CPUs as Core-based processors in Quarter1 2010

While it’s fun to benchmark the latest Intel “Extreme” processor and hear about the performance tweaks that have been implemented over the previous iteration, the fact is that most buyers can’t afford to drop $1,000 on a CPU, or even $200-$300 for its still-powerful but more affordable siblings. Even Intel apparently is aware that people are still satisfied with a Pentium dual-core processor instead of a Core i5; according to Fudzilla, Intel projects that Pentiums not only will outsell Core i3s, i5s, and i7s this first quarter of 2010, but also Core 2 Duos and Core 2 Quads. In other words, the company’s humbler offerings will outpace all of the other boxed Intel CPUs, including the few bargain-priced (and -powered) Celerons that will still be available.

We can all pretty much guess why this is the case. While the latest games and certain applications like Adobe Photoshop or Premiere Pro can make use of some of that extra processing horsepower, most people are using Microsoft Office, surfing the Web, and maybe doing their taxes on their PCs. They can run multiple apps like these at the same time and use Windows 7 with a Pentium-based PC. Most users don’t need Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technologies, and certainly won’t pay for them with the economy still in flux.

In case you’re curious, here’s the approximate breakdown in terms of projected sales of Intel’s other boxed processors: Celeron (both single and dual core), 11%; Core 2 Duo, 12%; Core 2 Quad, 7%; Core i3, 5%; Core i5, 5%; Core i7, 2%; and the forthcoming Core i9, 4%. If you plan on doing an Intel-based processor upgrade soon

MSi has announced a new line of all-in-one desktop PCs named Wind Top, and they’re sure to keep users entertained with high-definition 3D displays and premium sound systems.

The AE2420 also gets 10-watt speakers for increased bass, while the AE2280 has a pair of five-watt Hi-Fi speakers.

Rounding out the set are the 19- and 20-inch Wind Top AP1920 and AE1920, being dubbed as the more “eco-friendly” pair of the bunch being that they require 90 percent less energy than other desktops in their class. They’re also built with materials free of harmful substances, and their packaging is 80 percent recyclable.

All of these are set to be displayed on the global stage early next month at the CeBIT tradeshow in Hanover, Germany.

It looks like MSi has plenty more up its sleeves besides some sweet-looking all-in-one Wind Top HD desktop computers. The computer company has announced a game notebook that will debut at the CeBIT show in Germany next month: the GT660.

The GT660 notebook might not have a 3D display, but it’s packed with some specs to cater to the gaming crowd. And it adds a bit of flair with candy apple red accents around the edges.

It might not be much, but here’s what MSi has announced so far: Intel Core i7 quad-core processor, GeForce GTX 285M graphics, Up to 12GB of RAM, Three RAM slots, USB 3.0 ports

Prices and release dates haven’t been announced yet, but perhaps we’ll hear some updates coming out of CeBIT in March.

HP announces 3.0 software upgrade for MediaSmart EX470 and EX480 Fixes Issues.

Hewlett-Packard has a treat in store for MediaSmart EX470 and EX480owners: the company is issuing a DVD with 3.0 software updates that only more recent models have. Yay!

Currently only available to MediaSmart EX490 and EX495 editions, users can get the upgrade DVD via HP’s website. WeGotServed has full instructions if this pertains to you. Some of the updates include auto media transcoding and improved Mac support.

The downside? The update comes with a $25 price tag. Bummer. But its €25 across the Atlantic, which is totally more than $25, so at least you’re not getting ripped off like the European owners.
